Earps seals WSL return with London City Lionesses
Former England goalkeeper Mary Earps has sealed a return to the Women’s Super League with London City Lionesses.
Earps was a key player for Sarina Wiegman’s team as they won the European Championships for the first time in 2022, beating Germany 2-1 in extra time in the final.
She also helped England reach the final of the Women’s World Cup the following year, memorably saving a penalty from Jennifer Hermoso in the showpiece match, though Spain won 1-0 via a goal from Olga Carmona.
Earps retired from international duty ahead of Euro 2025 after Hannah Hampton usurped her as the Lionesses’ first-choice goalkeeper, with Wiegman’s team then retaining their trophy via a penalty shoot-out triumph over Spain.
Earps left the WSL two years ago, swapping Manchester United for Paris Saint-Germain, making 41 league appearances in France and keeping 19 clean sheets as they finished second in 2024-25 and third in 2025-26.
And after the expiration of her PSG contract, the 33-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with London City, who have also been linked with an ambitious move for two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas after she left Barcelona as a free agent.

In a statement, Earps said: “The club’s values represent what I want to represent, and they are passionate about what I want to achieve and change the game in a positive way.
“All the conversations have been really positive and every time I spoke with the club, I wanted to hear more.
“The vision and ambition, including the new training facility, is incredible and I’m looking forward to seeing that develop. It shows what our owner, Michele [Kang], and everyone at the club want to do in terms of really going for it.
“It’s about putting a marker down and saying we want to be competitive in a short space of time.”
London City had already announced the signings of France midfielder Grace Geyoro and winger Delphine Cascarino, plus Spain defender Jana Fernandez, as they look to build on a sixth-placed finish in their debut WSL campaign in 2025-26.
