Omar Artan appointed to referee PSG – Aston Villa

Rejected at the borders by the American authorities even though he had been selected by FIFA to officiate at the next World Cup, Omar Artan has since returned to Somalia. The 34-year-old referee received a standing ovation on his return to the country, before being cheered in a stadium in Mogadishu, the Somali capital, on the sidelines of a local championship match.

Elected best CAF referee in 2025, Artan has just been appointed by UEFA to officiate at the next European Super Cup. As a reminder, this year’s poster will pit Paris Saint-Germain, winner of the Champions League, against Aston Villa, winner of the Europa League. This meeting will take place on August 12 in Salzburg.
