Vuskovic ‘the future of European football’, says Srna

Former Croatia defender Darijo Srna believes Tottenham youngster Luka Vuskovic is “the future of European football”.

Vuskovic spent the 2025-26 season on loan with Hamburg in the Bundesliga, helping them finish 13th in the league and avoid relegation.

Among Bundesliga defenders this season, Vuskovic won the fifth-most duels (207), the second-most aerial duels (149) and recorded the sixth-most interceptions (40).

The 19-year-old’s displays for Hamburg have seen him gain plenty of interest from European clubs, despite Tottenham’s desire to keep the centre-back.

Premier League side Brighton have reportedly already submitted a bid for the youngster, though are said to have been far off Spurs’ valuation.

Vuskovic’s main focus will be on representing Croatia at the World Cup, but Srna believes the Spurs defender is destined for greatness.

“I know Luka from when he was a kid because I played in the youth categories at Hajduk Split with his father, Danijel,” the Shakhtar Donetsk sporting director told Flashscore.

“He is a very good friend of mine. I know Luka and Mario, his two sons. They are amazing kids with amazing talent.

“Luka has already shown that he will have an amazing future. He plays with so much confidence that I have the feeling he is a 25-year-old player.

“For sure, he is part of the future of European football and of the Croatian national team.”
