Les Bleues put pressure on the Netherlands
Following its victory in Poland (0-2), France temporarily regains the lead of its qualifying group for the 2027 World Cup.
This Friday evening, the French women’s team traveled to Gdansk to face Poland on the fifth day of qualifying for the 2027 World Cup. Despite the absences of Griedge Mbock and Kadidiatou Diani, the Blues did not miss the opportunity to take first place in group A2 from the Netherlands.
In this crucial match to validate their ticket to Brazil, Laurent Bonadei’s girls had to wait until the second period to find the fault. Melvine Malard poked her ball with her right foot to beat goalkeeper Kinga Seweryn (1-0, 47th). Shortly after the hour mark, Sandy Baltimore made the break, with a powerful shot which landed in the opponent’s top corner (2-0, 63rd).
The Blues in the lead, the Netherlands have their destiny between their feet
Thanks to this success, the French women temporarily take control of their group. With ten points, they are two steps ahead of the Netherlands. The Dutch will return to the top of the group in the event of victory in the Republic of Ireland (kick-off at 8:30 p.m.). As a reminder, only first place in the group qualifies for the World Cup.
