After Torino, now Sassuolo are the latest Serie A club to be courting coach Alberto Aquilani, who nearly took Catanzaro to promotion.

The young coach is attracting a lot of attention thanks to the performances of Catanzaro in Serie B this season, as they made it all the way to the promotion play-off final, losing narrowly to Monza over two legs.

It had already been reported that he was being targeted by Torino for his first Serie A experience in management.

Now Tuttomercatoweb note that Sassuolo have also set their sights on Aquilani, seeing him as the new favourite ahead of Ignazio Abate, the current coach of Juve Stabia.

It would be a return to the Mapei Stadium, where the former midfielder was a player on loan in 2017.

Sassuolo need a new boss, as Fabio Grosso will terminate his contract by mutual consent this week so that he can take over at Fiorentina.
