FC Barcelona declares war on Florentino Pérez!
The conflict between FC Barcelona and Florentino Pérez reaches a new milestone. This Friday, the Catalan club announced that it had filed a request for conciliation prior to legal action for defamation against the president of Real Madrid. A procedure which targets several statements made by the Madrid leader during his press conference on May 12, as well as in an interview given the next day, where Pérez did not hesitate to tackle the Catalan club and accusing it of corruption.
At the heart of the dispute, Florentino Pérez’s comments regarding the Negreira affair. The head of the White House said: “how is it possible that, in this criminal case, we are the only ones demanding justice? How is it possible that the president of referees asks us to forget and move on? But how can we forget the biggest scandal in football history? Particularly strong statements which aroused the anger of Barcelona leaders.
Barça threatens Florentino Pérez
In its press release, Barça explains that this approach aims to obtain a public retraction from Florentino Pérez. The club considers that certain statements were made knowing that they were false and that they seriously damage its image and reputation. The Blaugranas criticize the Madrid leader in particular for having presented as established facts which have not been confirmed by the courts. FC Barcelona now warns that if this request for conciliation is not successful, criminal proceedings will be initiated.
A new stage in the open war between the two giants of Spanish football, as Florentino Pérez continues to defend his position. In May 2024, the Spanish courts overturned the charge of active corruption against FC Barcelona, but FC Barcelona and some of its former managers are currently under investigation for alleged payments of more than 7.3 million euros. Just re-elected as head of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez has been warned.
