Garcia improving at Barca due to ‘high-pressure matches’

Joan Garcia believes playing in “high-pressure matches” for Barcelona has helped him become a better goalkeeper.

The 25-year-old joined Barca from rivals Espanyol ahead of the 2025-26 season and went on to make a strong impression for Hansi Flick’s side.

Garcia kept the most clean sheets in LaLiga this season (15) as the Blaugrana won the title with three games to spare.

Barca also won the Supercopa de Espana, while they were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Garcia kept 18 clean sheets across all competitions, though none of those came in the Champions League.

Barca faced the likes of Atleti, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in their European campaign, and Garcia believes he benefits the most from those fixtures.

“The experience of accumulating minutes and playing high-pressure matches makes you improve in every way,” Garcia told Catalunya Radio and Esport3.

“They’ve put me in situations I perhaps wasn’t used to on the pitch, and I think I’ve responded well.

“I’ve improved my decision-making and my ball distribution. Obviously, I’ll still make mistakes, but I’m very happy with this improvement.

“Signing for Barca has helped me get to the World Cup, although you never know what might have happened otherwise.”
