The strange disappearance of Ousmane Dembélé
Despite his Ballon d’Or and his new exceptional spring with PSG, Ousmane Dembélé does not appear in the Top 100 most expensive players according to CIES.
Without even waiting for the World Cup, which should inevitably change the situation, the CIES Football Observatory in Neuchâtel took advantage of the end of the season to unveil its traditional Top 100 players with the highest market value. And like last year, it is Lamine Yamal who dominates the ranking.
If he remains the most expensive player in the world of football, the Barcelona number 10 has lost his value, going from €402.3 million to €358.1 million. The same goes for his runner-up, Erling Haaland, whose market value stands at €227.3 million compared to €239.6 million. Same observation also for Kylian Mbappé, who would only be worth €165.7 million compared to €192.5 million last year but who is taking advantage of Jude Belllingham’s fall to return to the podium in this ranking.
The former Parisian is ahead of a compatriot, Michael Olise, fourth with €140.5 million while Villan Morgan Rogers completes the Top 5 with his 136.8 million, just ahead of another Frenchwoman, Désiré Doué, sixth with €133.2 million. Young shoots monopolize the Top 10 followed by Kenan Yildiz (Juventus, 21 years old, €133 million). Nico O’Reilly (Man City, 21 years old, €125 million), Arda Güler (Real Madrid, 21 years old, €124.8 million) and Pau Cubarsi (Barça, 19 years old, €124.6 million).
Ousmane Dembélé only has two years left on his contract
Both PSG and the French team are well represented. In addition to Désiré Doué, João Neves (€117.1 million), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (€100.9 million), Warren Zaire-Emery (€100.4 million), Willian Pacho (€80.9 million), Bradley Barcola (€76.8 million), Vitinha (€75 million) and Nuno Mendes (€70.9 million) appear in the ranking. Hugo Ekitike (€118.3 million), Ryan Cherki (€100.5 million), William Saliba (€97.4 million), Dayot Upamecano (€70.3 million) and Aurélien Tchouameni (€69.2 million) accompany Kylian Mbappé and the PSG Blues.
Note, however, a notable absence. Despite his status as the best player in the world conferred by the Ballon d’Or and PSG’s new title in the Champions League, Ousmane Dembélé does not appear in the Top 100 ranking. This is a consequence of his 29 years and especially his contractual situation. The former Barcelona player only has two years left on his contract with PSG and the capital club risks having to sell him off if they fail to extend it before next summer.
