Roma are prioritising Mason Greenwood to reinforce their attack and are reportedly preparing a €40m offer for the Olympique Marseille striker.

The Giallorossi have a bigger budget than usual this summer after securing Champions League qualification for the first time in seven years.

Coach Gian Piero Gasperini complained bitterly last term about the lack of forwards suited to his style of football, noting that the difference following the January arrival of Donyell Malen from Aston Villa was astonishing.

Now he has pin-pointed Greenwood as the ideal addition to the attack, especially as the Englishman is on the market due to Olympique Marseille’s struggles.

According to Le10Sport in France and Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are lining up an opening proposal worth €40m plus add-ons to get the 24-year-old, who plays largely on the right side of a trident attack.

It probably won’t be enough, as Marseille are asking for closer to €50-55m.

A former England international who came up through the Manchester United youth academy, his career was almost ended by a personal scandal off the field, but he has been revitalised since the €26m move to France in 2024.

Greenwood scored a remarkable 26 goals with 11 assists in 45 competitive games for Marseille this season.

As part of that transfer, 40 per cent of the sell-on fee will go to Manchester United.
